Focus:
TEDxSFED @ The Urban School of San Francisco features the same presentations as those occurring at the Main Stage, with a follow-up afternoon program focusing on cutting edge, out-of-the-box 21st century teaching and learning occurring in schools NOW. Teachers and students from Bay Area schools will share exciting and innovative “best practices” that challenge conventions of classroom time, space and function, challenging the traditional roles within schools. Examples will highlight student work that blurs the boundaries of school time, space and function. Short presentations will be followed by a lively discussion with presenters and panel members on help changing the way we educate our youth education.
The Urban School of San Francisco proudly hosts this TEDXSFED simulcast event. The Urban School seeks to ignite a passion for learning. Urban’s extraordinary teachers challenge students in grades 9-12 with an acclaimed academic program that combines a college-preparatory curriculum in math, science, arts and humanities with a comprehensive service learning and competitive athletics program and a rich selection of co-curricular activities. Technology is fully infused throughout the curriculum as one of the first high schools in California to implement 1:1 laptops for all students. But the most enduring aspect of an Urban education is that students learn to take responsibility for their education and become active citizens in their own communities.
